Pete, you are right it's not your computer and it's not your internet connection. I have three devices and all of them take hours to update, even having the maps downloaded. The USB speed I'm seeing for the nûvi 260W is just 92.5 KB/s!!

The maps and other software updates downloaded alright.
Even my ancient GPS was quicker (till it was dropped on the floor and broke...) What speed is your Internet connection?
Some of the map updates are very large and will be slow on a slower connection, plus there may be others downloading at the same time.
Kjell I just updated a Garmin Nuvi 50 and it took 26 minutes to download plus a few minutes to install.
